Abbeyfield An Lac Community CIO
About Abbeyfield An Lac Community CIO
An Lac House was built in 1997 to provide supported housing for older Vietnamese residents. It is the only service in the UK that focuses on the Vietnamese community, and our 10 residents come not just from Cambridgeshire but also from other areas in the south of England. Many of the residents would struggle to fit in at a more conventional care home, but at An Lac House they feel part of a community, and are surrounded by culturally familiar language, food and customs, and live with people with similar backgrounds and experience. An Lac House has a small and dedicated staff of four, who are all Vietnamese speakers. These include chefs who prepare two home-cooked meals a day in Vietnamese cuisine. Our staff provide 24-hour support to residents, ensuring that they are safe, healthy and happy. We offer a variety of activities for health, well-being and enjoyment, as well as opportunities to socialise with volunteers and the local community.
An Lac House is also a cultural and social centre for the local Vietnamese community and hosts religious festivals, cultural and community events, meditation groups, exercise sessions, and a drop-in day centre. As the circumstances of the Vietnamese community in the UK evolves, we are making plans to offer the services that the new generation require. We are looking for additional Trustees to help us achieve this vision.
