Summary

Eight week creative/sustainable sewing course, supporting socially isolated people experiencing mental health issues (Ukrainian refugees and UK mixed group).

Detailed description

Sewing and non-sewing volunteers to support our 8 week course on Tuesday afternoons which runs 2-4pm. You will assist with setting up sewing machines (we can show you how to do this!). You don't even have to sew (but it helps!).

We already have a tutor and translation support from 2 Ukrainian speakers who also sew. You will be supporting delivering our basic sewing course, making sure participants have materials they need, encouraging them with positive feedback on progress and helping to clear the space after the sessions - our mantra is 'Embracing imperfection in our stitches as well as ourselves'. Volunteers can join our WhatsApp community for the group, where you will meet other creative volunteers and participants, who share resources and ideas from the course.

The Cambridge Design Rooms is a big, inspiring and creative space for all things sewing. We store our machines there, and we focus on sustainable textile use as we learn. We encourage co-production and skill-sharing, and have a supportive community for our volunteers.

This opportunity is for volunteers to support the running of the course to address health inequalities, social isolation and mental health. This is not for participants to book onto the course, which is advertised on our Linktree page.
