Summary

A brilliant opportunity to get involved and support our visually impaired participants to a monthly rowing activity for all to enjoy,

Detailed description

The rowing sessions falls within our Activities Service which offers service users the opportunity to enjoy a range of physical, creative, and social activities. It is a popular activity led by qualified and established coaches with experience in supporting people with vision loss. Monthly sessions follow a regular structure which includes an initial warm up before going out on to the lake solo or in a group before concluding with lunch and refreshments.

Main tasks

  • Liaise with the Volunteer Coordinator - Activities before and after the meeting to confirm expected attendance figures.
  • Arrive to board the community transport in time to collect participants enroute to the club and repeat this on the return leg.
  • Guide service users on and off the vehicle safely when leaving their home and then repeat after the rowing session concludes.
  • Guide service users who need support to access other areas of the clubhouse.
  • Talk to clients and keep the group engaged during journey and at the activity.

Desirable Qualities

  • A commitment to attending regularly.
  • A caring and understanding nature and a positive and motivated attitude.
  • An ability to work as part of a team, assisting the Activities Coordinator, other CamSight staff & volunteers and transport and rowing staff.
  • A confident communicator who enjoys social interaction opportunities.
  • Good timekeeping - it is essential that our activities run to time as transport is pre-arranged.

Considerations

  • Attendees may be supported by a Guide Dog.
  • We will ask you to tell us your monthly volunteering hours so we can record these for service monitoring and funding report purposes.
  • Delays can occur due to traffic volumes in some areas.
  • Weather – the activity takes place in any conditions unless deemed unsuitable, but you can remain indoors at the clubhouse if you do not want to be outside.
  • Dates can fluctuate but will be given in advance.

Benefits of volunteering for CamSight

  • A sense of satisfaction from helping others.
  • Greater understanding of sight loss and eye conditions.
  • Options to explore other volunteering opportunities within CamSight.

About CamSight

CamSight is a Cambridgeshire charity that supports local people of all ages living with low vision and blindness to live the lives they choose. We work to enhance independence, improve well-being, and improve inclusion.

Our vision
A world of equality, in which people of all ages who are blind or have low vision achieve the possibilities they choose in life.

Our values
At CamSight, we strive for a world of equality, in which people of all ages who have low vision and blindness achieve the possibilities they choose in life.

In this mission, we aim to uphold the following values in all that we do:

o Person-centred
Our beneficiaries are at the heart of everything we do. We see individuals as whole people, not defined by one element of their lives. Our work is holistic in approach. All are welcome at CamSight.

o Empowering
We enable everyone to be able to reach their full potential. We provide the tools, information, and advice to allow people to live the lives they choose. We do not prescribe or dictate terms; we empower decision and action. We invest in our staff and volunteers to meet their aspirations and those of CamSight.

o Friendly
We are caring and empathetic to all we work with. We are a friendly voice at the end of a telephone call or a friendly face to chat with over a cup of tea. We are responsive in our communication and in our work. We create a positive, professional environment in which to work.

o Collaborative
We work well together and with others. We are flexible and adaptable in our approach, looking to build our partnerships and networks for the benefit of our beneficiaries.

o Accountable
We are accountable to each other and to our beneficiaries. We monitor and report our impact, our finances, our progress, and our plans in an open and honest way. We build trust through transparency. We welcome feedback and we work to improve.
